I love people and I love people's relationships. I think people are interesting and complicated and unique and there's something about that that just excites me!
I want to show individual people's personalities...their struggles...their joys...their sorrows...their excitment...their
l i f e!
A lot of photographers focus on people's best, more exciting moments...while that is, of course, a goal of mine and something that I would love to participate in, I also want to portray people's hurt; their past; their pain; everyday life. I want to show ordinary events and objects and people and portray them in such a way that is beautiful, new, interesting and in a way that makes you think.
When you look at my photos, I want you to be able to relate to the person or group of people in them. I believe that if that does not happen, I have failed as a photographer...otherwise why would you take the time to look through dozens and dozens of pictures of people that you don't know and, honestly, don't care about because you don't know them! When you look at my portraits, I want you to be interested in the life of the model. I want you to look at the picture and wonder what her story is. What was his past that shows up in the sadness in his eyes? What hardships have they gone through? Who is the most important person to the model? What are their relationships like? What excites them and brings joy to the person's eyes?
If I can achieve even a fraction of those goals, then I believe that I have succeeded as a photographer.
"Photography, as a powerful medium of expression and communications, offers an infinite variety of perception, interpretation and execution."
